Plasma Surgical

Plasma bt is the machine we use to provide this highly innovative treatment.

It uses plasma, a special form of a gas that has an electrical energy, to work throughout the skin from the epidermis deep into the dermis.  Unlike laser it does not impact on the skin, blood or epidermal tissue and has an outstanding effect on skin treatments, absorption of products, sterilisation, skin regeneration, anti-pigmentation and increasing skin elasticity by tightening skin fibres and inducing new collagen growth.

There are two separate treatment options with Plasma bt – Plasma Surgical and Plasma Shower.

Plasma Surgical

Plasma Surgical is widely used in treating the area around the eyes to tighten excess skin both above and below the eye in what is being termed ’non-surgical blepharoplasty’. With a minimum course of three treatments, results are akin in result and longevity to having surgery – but without the significant downtime!

Plasma surgical can also be used on other areas to treat fine lines and wrinkles such as ‘crow’s feet’ and upper lip lines; to remove pigmentation and to remove skin tags, moles and warts. Areas for treatment include;

  • Blepharoplasty
  • Epidermal pigmentation

What does the treatment involve?

After careful consultation and explanation the area to be treated is cleaned prior to the application of a local anaesthetic on the skin.  This is left for 30 minutes. Multiple shots of Plasma spaced closely together are administered with the treatment taking approximately 30 minutes to perform.  Due to the anaesthetic discomfort during the procedure is minimal. The Plasma causes a process called sublimation which turns a solid into a gas so results are instant, however results are best judged after 3 weeks. There is no heat transferred to surrounding tissues and therefore no damage caused to the rest of the skin.

Following treatment little dark brown spots of micro-crusts can be seen which flake off after approximately 5 days.  Swelling around the area is very common (often quite significant around the eyes) and can last for several days. The skin may also be reddened and tender for a few days.

What exactly is Plasma?

Plasma is the 4th state of matter, after solid, liquid and gas. Essentially it’s a gas, in this case atmospheric, that is ionised (electrons removed through the application of energy). Plasma is common throughout the universe (and in plasma tv’s), but is not the same as plasma found in blood.

How many treatments will I need?

You will see an improvement after the first treatment however for best results and to ensure longevity a course of 3 treatments are recommended.

How long will the results last?

Generally after a course of 3 Plasma Surgical treatments for sagging eyelids the results last as long as surgical blepharoplasty which is on average 3 to 5 years.

Does it hurt?

The use of a local anaesthetic applied to the skin minimises any discomfort felt.  Ice packs and anti-histamine medication can be used after treatment to reduce swelling.

What will I look like immediately after treatment?

You will have lots of little dark brown spots on the treated area and may have reddening of the underlying skin and swelling.  Swelling, particularly around the eyes will increase over the next few days before settling.  It is important that the crusts are left to fall off on their own and not picked or rubbed off as this may cause infection.
