What does the micro-needling treatment involve?

The tool is a small pen with a number of tiny surgical needles within its head. It is moved over the skin to create numerous micro injuries the full depth of the skin. When the skin is injured, the injury is repaired with new improved collagen delivering a natural and lasting improvement in the health and quality of the complexion. The skin is cleansed and prepared with an antiseptic solution. Anaesthetic numbing cream is applied to ensure your comfort during the treatment. The treatment itself takes about 30 minutes.

Immediately after the treatment your skin will be pink, as if you have just had a workout or mild sunburn. This may take a few days to return to it’s usual colour. Initially the skin may feel hot, stingy and tight, but this usually settles within a few hours. Post procedure a serum and cream is applied to help reduce redness and improve comfort. Sun protection is vital during treatment.

The skin generally improves over a twelve month period following a course of three or more treatments 6 weeks apart with maintenance treatment recommended every six months. This will be discussed in your consultation.

What is micro-needling?

Micro-needling is an advanced skin-needling procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself safely and naturally. Micro-needles are able to part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. This naturally stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin and is safe to use on different areas of the body for smoother, brighter, healthier and younger looking skin. This is a simple and safe treatment.

Can I have micro-needling when breast feeding or pregnant?

All areas of the face, neck and body can be treated.

What about facial warts or cold sores and having micro-needling?

If you have any type of herpes virus, dormant or otherwise you cannot have micro-needling on that area. When treating above lip lines, if you have suffered from cold sores in the past your practitioner will make sure the micro-needler does not touch the lips or the cold sores will flare again. Facial warts if dormant may not flare when having micro-needling but it is not worth the risk.
