Could medical aesthetics change how you live with facial differences, scarring or skin conditions?

Could medical aesthetics change how you live with facial differences, scarring or skin conditions?

Living with facial asymmetry, visible scarring or vascular skin changes can quietly shape how you move through the world. We see it every week. Patients who have been medically discharged, technically “treated”, yet still carry the physical and emotional impact of what their face or skin has been through.

At Rediscovered Skin Clinic, we believe that care should not stop when hospital treatment ends. Through our partnership with The Leg Up Foundation and LTF, we provide consultation-led, medically appropriate support for individuals living with facial differences, trauma-related scarring, and complex skin conditions. This work is ethical, conservative, and deeply personal to us.

We are not here to chase perfection. We are here to support comfort, balance, function and confidence, especially where these have been affected by illness, injury or life-altering medical treatment.

Supporting patients living with facial differences, scarring, and skin conditions

Facial and skin changes can occur for many reasons. Some are present from birth. Others develop suddenly after illness, surgery or trauma. In many cases, the visible effects linger long after the medical crisis has passed.

Through The Leg Up Foundation, we are able to offer pro-bono medical aesthetics to both existing and new patients who would otherwise struggle to access care. This allows us to treat people, not problems, and to approach every case with the time, respect and clinical responsibility it deserves.

Facial asymmetry caused by congenital or acquired conditions

Understanding facial asymmetry beyond aesthetics

Facial asymmetry is often misunderstood as a purely cosmetic concern. In reality, it frequently reflects underlying neurological or muscular changes that affect daily function.

We commonly see facial asymmetry caused by:

  • Congenital conditions affecting facial development
  • Stroke or transient ischaemic events
  • Bell’s palsy and other facial nerve conditions
  • Nerve injury following trauma or surgery
  • Post-surgical or post-medical muscle imbalance

These changes can affect facial expression, speech, eye closure, comfort and self-recognition in the mirror. For many patients, the emotional impact is as significant as the physical one.

How we support patients with facial asymmetry

Our approach is conservative, medically led and highly individualised. Using carefully selected toxin and restorative dermal fillers, we aim to rebalance muscle activity rather than alter identity.

Treatment may focus on:

  • Reducing muscle overactivity or compensatory movement
  • Improving facial symmetry at rest and during expression
  • Supporting functional movement and comfort

Every plan begins with a full medical consultation and is led by our Nurse Prescribers. We prioritise safety, proportion and realism at every step. The goal is not to “correct” a face, but to help it function and feel more comfortable.

Scarring from acne, trauma, and medical or surgical treatment

When scarring affects more than the skin

Scarring is one of the most common reasons patients seek our help, and one of the most emotionally complex. Scars often tell stories of survival, illness or trauma, but they can also become daily reminders of difficult experiences.

We support individuals with scarring caused by:

  • Inflammatory or cystic acne
  • Accidents or physical trauma
  • Surgical procedures
  • Medical treatments, including cancer care

Many scars are long-standing, texturally complex or associated with altered sensation, discomfort, and reduced confidence. These effects are rarely addressed within standard medical pathways.

Our medically led approach to scar support

At Rediscovered Skin Clinic, Jade leads our laser and energy-based treatments with precision and care. Through advanced technologies, including:

We aim to:

  • Improve scar texture, pliability and softness
  • Reduce redness, pigmentation and uneven tone
  • Support long-term skin regeneration and resilience

We are always honest. Scars cannot be erased. Our role is to reduce their physical and emotional impact, helping patients feel more at ease in their skin.

Vascular skin differences and persistent facial redness

Vascular changes that impact daily life

Vascular skin differences are often highly visible and emotionally burdensome. They may be present from birth or develop following illness, trauma or inflammation.

We commonly treat:

  • Port wine stain birthmarks
  • Telangiectasia and broken capillaries
  • Persistent facial redness
  • Post-surgical or post-inflammatory vascular changes

These conditions can cause flushing, discomfort, and heightened self-consciousness, particularly in social or professional settings.

How laser and light-based treatments can help

Using medically approved laser and light-based technologies, we work to:

  • Significantly reduce visible blood vessels and redness
  • Improve overall skin tone uniformity
  • Reduce discomfort, flushing and sensitivity

Treatment plans are always individualised and delivered within a medically led framework, with clear communication around expected outcomes and limitations.

A consultation-led, ethical model of pro-bono care

Why medical oversight matters

Every patient accessing care through The Leg Up Foundation receives:

  • A full medical consultation
  • Assessment of functional and psychological impact
  • Ethical treatment planning prioritising safety and wellbeing

This matters deeply to us. Vulnerable patients deserve thoughtful, proportionate care, not trends or shortcuts. Nathan ensures that every journey through the clinic feels supported, calm and human.

Expanding access beyond existing patients

While we already provide pro-bono care to patients within our existing community, this initiative extends access to new patients who:

  • Live with long-term facial difference or scarring
  • Experience functional or emotional impact
  • Are unable to access private care independently

This work reflects who we are as a team. Fun, caring, a little cheeky, but always grounded in good medicine and genuine empathy.

Why this work matters to us

We see the relief when a patient finally feels heard. We see the confidence return when facial balance improves or scarring softens. These moments remind us why medical aesthetics, when done properly, can be life-changing.

If you feel that facial difference, scarring or a skin condition is affecting how you live, we are here to listen. Always.

FAQs

Can medical aesthetics help with facial asymmetry after stroke or nerve damage?

Yes. When clinically appropriate, conservative treatments can help rebalance muscle activity, improve symmetry and support functional comfort.

Is pro-bono treatment available to new patients?

Yes. Through The Leg Up Foundation, we are extending pro-bono care to new patients who meet eligibility criteria and require medically led support.

Can scars from surgery or trauma really be improved?

Scars cannot be removed completely, but texture, colour and discomfort can often be significantly improved with the right treatment plan.

Are these treatments cosmetic or medical?

All treatments are medically assessed and delivered. The focus is function, balance and wellbeing, not aesthetic perfection.

How do I find out if I am suitable?

Start with a consultation. This allows us to assess your needs, discuss options and ensure ethical, appropriate care.
