PDO Honey Derma Threads

PDO Honey Derma Threads are a ‘non-surgical’ face lift, body lift and contouring treatment.

This minimally invasive procedure uses dissolvable PDO (Polydioxanone) threads to lift and tighten the skin by stimulating new collagen production, and reducing wrinkles. This procedure has less risk than surgical facelift, minimal downtime and as no incisions are required, there is no scarring.

How does a Thread Lift work?

Using a very fine needle, the dissolvable PDO threads are inserted into the skin. The threads have a double effect; firstly an immediate lifting and tightening effect, secondly skin rejuvenation by stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin.

What does the treatment involve?

Initially you will have a careful discussion with your aesthetic practitioner to discuss your suitability for the procedure and your desired outcome. Your face is assessed to establish the sagging areas which are to be treated. It may be that another option would be more suitable for you or that you will require other treatments (such as anti-ageing injections or dermal fillers) to achieve the results you want. A full medical history will be taken along with photographs. If you are suitable for the treatment you will be prescribed a 3 day course of antibiotics to take the day prior to treatment, on the day and the day post treatment.

At the treatment the skin is carefully cleansed and sanitised. Anaesthetic cream and / or local anaesthetic injections are used in the area to be treated. The face will be marked with surgical pen to indicate the positioning of the threads. A small opening in the skin is made with a needle and the threads are inserted through a hollow cannula. The cannula is then removed and the skin smoothed to achieve the desired look. The tiny cogs (barbs) on the thread attach to the underlying tissues securing it in the correct position. The excess thread is trimmed off so that it is beneath the skin surface.

The procedure is relatively quick taking between 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours depending on what area is being treated and the type and number of threads used.

Results can frequently be seen immediately and with only one treatment, however results improve over the next few weeks with optimum results seen between 3 and 6 months when your own collagen has begun to grow around the threads thereby assisting the lifting effect.

What can be treated with threading?

  • Underarms (bingo wings)
  • Stomach
  • Knees
  • Buttocks
  • Flanks (muffin top)
  • Back
  • Decolletage
  • Stretch marks
  • Face
  • Neck

Is the thread body lift painful?

Discomfort is managed as much as possible by the use of local anaesthetic injections and cream. Most patients do not consider it to be a painful treatment however a little discomfort cannot be completely ruled out.

How long does a PDO thread lift work for?

After the initial immediate lift, results continue to improve over the following weeks as your body produces collagen and elastin in response to stimulation by the threads. Results can last for 1-2 years making this a long lasting treatment.

Do I need special preparation before a Honey Derma thread bodylift?

No special preparation is required however it is important to discuss your expectations with your practitioner before starting treatment. It is also imperative that you disclose any treatments you have already received, any medications you are taking and any medical history you have.

Will I have bruises?

There may be some bruising as a result of the injections. The threads can also cause some slight swelling.

How long do I need to be off work?

Bruising and swelling usually settles within a few days. Recovery is generally quick with most clients resuming normal activities the next day. You may find that your movement is a little limited for the first two weeks and it may be a little painful to exercise.

What are the risks and potential complications from Thread Lift surgery?

Soreness, swelling and bruising. Puckering of the skin may occur but will settle with gentle massage. Side effects and risks are minimal and very rare but may include; Allergic reaction to the anaesthetic; infection at the site of thread insertion; protrusion of the thread; asymmetry; occasionally the threads do not work for as long as usually expected.

Can anyone have a thread bodylift?

If you are fit and well and in good health this is a treatment option for you. Expectations must be realistic with excessive sagging skin as no skin is removed with this treatment therefore a surgical bodylift may be indicated. If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, immune-supressed or prone to keloid scarring you will not be eligible for this treatment.
